Chocolate banana fruit leather (aka fruit roll-ups) are a smart, fun, and easy way to use up overripe bananas and make 100% natural, nutritious, energy-boosting snacks. Made with just 2 ingredients and only a few minutes preparation, you can simply let the Breeze Food Dehydrator do its thing. Once dried, enjoy mess free, fruit snacks that are perfect for hiking, lunch boxes, road trips and more.
Chocolate banana fruit leather is best suited to bananas that are very ripe and sweet. The drying process preserves the nutrients and intensifies the flavour and sweetness, so no sugar is needed.
4 large ripe bananas
2 tablespoons cacao or cocoa powder
1. Peel and break up the bananas into small chunks.
2. Add the banana and cacao to the Vibe Blender jug. Blend on ‘smoothie’ mode for approx. 40 seconds or until the mixture is a smooth puree.
3. Lay the silicon rollups sheets on the Breeze food dehydrator trays.
4. Pour the puree into the centre of 4 sheets then use a spoon or spatula to work the mixture into the corners.
5. Stack the trays into the dehydrator and set the temperature to 55°C / 131°F and the time to 10 hours.
6. Fruit leather should feel a bit tacky but peel away from the silicon tray easily when sufficiently dried. If the centre is still wet or they feel sticky to touch, switch the dehydrator on for another 2 hours.
7. Cut the leather into strips with scissors.
8. Chocolate banana fruit leather can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for several months.
